CPCHEA is an initiative of Africans for Africans. It is an organisation that is grounded in a community. The Executive Director and Secretariat are servants of that community. This priority of community is both an African and Christian value that we can share with the rest of the world.
The Secretariat has developed a cost effective operation with plans to expand in order to facilitate the effective functioning of this community.
However, CPCHEA cannot be effective without the active participation of the members in CPCHEA programmes. This requires a commitment by all members to making an appropriate contribution to the fulfilment of the CPCHEA Vision and Mission.
The Vision of CPCHEA
That African Christians develop Christian educational programmes that show the world a better way forward incorporating the best features of Western education while enriching this with the valuable features of African culture to develop a coherent educational system that supports a society in which the gifts of all are utilised to the full and the well-being of every human is the top priority.
The Mission of CPCHEA
Is to facilitate this vision by providing collaborative links and facilities, together with resources and to promote an understanding of the essential features of an authentic Christian approach to education. This does not mean ways of "contextualising" programmes based on Western cultural values, but rather a critically creative approach that brings genuine transformational character to Christian educational endeavours
The Secretariat's Plans
The CPCHEA web site has been comprehensively reconstructed to serve members better;
The Secretariat is being strengthened by recruiting volunteers with appropriate expertise in order to serve the members better;
We will continue the programmes of seminars and conferences with relevant presentations for each region;
We have provided discussion forums to facilitate communal interaction between African educators in both tertiary (higher) education and the earlier stages of education (primary and secondary).
The Members' Role
Pay their membership dues, both individual and institutional: US$35 per year for individuals and as assessed for institutions on a case by case basis. Members of the Secretariat, including the Executive Director receive no pay for their work as what funds and other assistance comes is enough only to cover operational costs. In the light of this it is reasonable that the members who benefit from CPCHEA activities should provide some financial support. Even if, in special cases, the full dues cannot be met, members are asked to contribute what they can
Contribute articles for the African Journal of Transformational Scholarship. As an interdisciplinary, peer reviewed journal it provides a unique vehicle for CPCHEA members engaged in every discipline to contribute to Christian perspectives in the African context. While we are also one of the co-sponsors of the Christian Higher Education Journal this should not be at the expense of our own unique journal. Take some time out from your busy schedule to make a contribution that will involve no financial cost and enrich our African knowledge base.
Check your entry in the member directory on the web site and advise us of any changes that are needed to keep the directory up to date. If you find that you are not listed send us your details; if you are not a member consider becoming one. In either case all it takes is an email to cpchea_admin@cpchea.org
Participate in the discussion forums that are provided to facilitate the nurture of community among us. Experience elsewhere has shown that, while this may take time to gain momentum, once it does it is a great way to interact with one another on common issues. Conferences bring us together face to face but we need a way of staying connected bewtween conferences
If we all take our roles seriously as part of our daily ministry for the kingdom of God both we and our societies will be enriched.
